About
Dr. Prita Riana Asih is a Research Fellow at Macquarie Medical School and currently holds a research associate position at the Dementia Research Centre, Macquarie University under Dr. Arne Ittner. She earned her PhD in Molecular Biology from UNSW (2015–2019), focusing on TSPO function in neurodegenerative diseases. Her research career includes part-time roles as a research assistant at Edith Cowan University and KaRa Institute of Neurological Disease. She specializes in Alzheimer's disease, neurodegenerative mechanisms, and biomarker discovery.
Education: Bachelor of Science (Honours, Biotechnology) from Murdoch University (2014), PhD from UNSW Sydney (2019).
Research interests include translocator protein (TSPO) biology, Alzheimer’s pathogenesis, biomarker development, and tau protein interactions. Her work has explored amyloid toxicity, mitochondrial protein interactions, and cognition-related tau kinases.
Key contributions include studies on ketone body effects on brain metabolism, NSF-dependent AMPA receptor trafficking, and tau hyperphosphorylation mechanisms. Her publications span 2014–2023, with impactful work in Science Advances and Frontiers in Neuroscience.
Awarded the Ann Osborn Memorial Prize in Biotechnology (2015). Active collaborations include international teams in Japan (NIRS) and Australia (UNSW, Macquarie).
Labs/Teams: Principal affiliation with Dementia Research Centre, leading projects on neurodegenerative biomarkers and therapeutic interventions.
