Prof Pratap Rughani is a Professor of Documentary Practices at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London (UAL), and Associate Dean of Research. He is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and educator, known for his work in interweaving documentary practice with ethical considerations, intercultural dialogue, and post-colonial thought. Rughani has significantly contributed to inclusive curriculum development, notably creating the MA Documentary Film course at UAL.
His research spans documentary film, ethics of representation, and the intersection of aesthetics and social justice. He explores themes such as Kubrick’s cinematic legacy, trauma documentation, and the role of media in peacebuilding. His publications and films reflect a commitment to marginalized voices and restorative storytelling.

As an educator, Rughani employs collaborative pedagogies, bridging theory and practice. He has held leadership roles in the Association of National Teaching Fellows and contributed to UAL’s research centers: Transnational Art, Identity and Nation (TrAIN) and the Photography & Archive Research Centre (PARC). His professional activities include serving on the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 Panel and the AHRC Peer Review College.
