About
Prashant V. Kamat is the Rev. John A. Zahm, C.S.C., Professor of Science at the University of Notre Dame, holding concurrent positions in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. His research focuses on nanomaterials for light energy conversion, particularly in semiconductor and perovskite-based systems.
He has authored over 500 scientific papers and is a Fellow of major scientific societies, including the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Notable awards include the Henry H. Storch Award in Energy Chemistry (2024) and recognition as a Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson-Reuters (2014–2020).
His lab investigates halide perovskites, photocatalytic membranes, and ion migration dynamics. Recent studies explore energy transfer pathways in perovskite-dye hybrids, stability mechanisms in 2D/3D perovskite solar cells, and Ag-MoS₂ nanocomposites for enhanced photocatalytic performance. Collaborations include interdisciplinary projects with external researchers, fostering advancements in sustainable energy technologies.
Students under his mentorship include Manish, Akshaya, and Sara Murray, who have contributed to groundbreaking studies on electron transfer and perovskite stability. Kamat also serves as Editor-in-Chief of ACS Energy Letters, furthering his impact on energy research communication.
