Pramod Sangi Reddy

Pramod Sangi Reddy is a Professor in both the Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering departments at the University of Michigan, College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Science and Technology from the University of California, Berkeley (2007), an M.Tech. in Computer Aided Design and Automation from the Indian Institute of Technology (2002), and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (2002).

Professor Reddy's research focuses on nanoscale charge and energy transport, thermoelectric devices, microscale heat transfer, organic photovoltaics, scanning probe microscopy, and optics. His work falls under the broader research areas of Energy and Micro/Nano Engineering. He has developed novel experimental techniques for measuring thermal transport at the atomic scale, leading to significant discoveries in the field.

His research has resulted in numerous high-impact publications in journals like Nature, Science, and Nature Nanotechnology, demonstrating how quantum effects can be harnessed for energy conversion applications at the nanoscale. His work on quantized thermal transport in atomic junctions, nanoscale thermal switches, and LED-based refrigeration represents groundbreaking contributions to fundamental thermal science.

Professor Reddy teaches a comprehensive range of courses including Heat Transfer (ME 335), Laboratory courses (ME 395, ME 495), Radiative Heat Transfer (ME 533), Thermodynamics III (ME 535), and specialized courses on Solid-State Physics and Instrumentation. His research group has mentored numerous graduate students who have received awards for their dissertation work, including ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Awards.

His laboratory at the University of Michigan focuses on developing advanced instrumentation for nanoscale thermal measurements and exploring fundamental phenomena in energy transport at the atomic scale. The group has received significant funding from the Department of Energy, Office of Naval Research, and National Science Foundation to support their innovative research on nanoscale heat transfer and energy conversion.
