Dr. Polly Savage is Senior Lecturer in the Art History of Africa at SOAS University of London's School of Arts. With a BA from SOAS, MA from Goldsmiths, and PhD from the Royal College of Art, she researches art theory, curating, and visual cultures across Africa and its diaspora. Her work combines curatorial practice (including five years at October Gallery) with scholarly analysis of decolonization's visual cultures.
Research explores:
- Cold War artistic networks in Lusophone Africa
- Transnational solidarity in liberation movements
- Decolonial aesthetics and knowledge production
- Curatorial appropriations in socialist contexts
Authored 'Making Art in Africa 1960-2010' (2014) and forthcoming 'Um So Povo: Art, Solidarity and the Mozambican Revolution'. Supervises PhD projects on South African photography, Afro-Brazilian objects, Japanese installation art, and West African carving traditions.
