About
Pirjo Astrom is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Overall Lab at the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Blood Research. She conducted her PhD research at the Cancer and Translational Medicine Research Unit, University of Oulu, Finland, focusing on molecular mechanisms of oral wound healing and tongue cancer, particularly the role of MMP-8. Currently, her work examines the roles of various matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in breast and oral cancers, aiming to uncover molecular pathways and identify therapeutic targets.
Her expertise includes molecular cell biology, cancer biology, mammalian cell culture, in vitro models (cell/tissue culture and toxicity screening), mouse tumor models, and MMP research. She is affiliated with Lab #4.420 at the Centre for Blood Research, with contact via phone: +1-604-822-3561.
