Piotr Wojnar is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS), employed since 2009 and leader of the Laboratory of Growth and Physics of Low Dimensional Crystals since 2022. He is a key researcher in the MagTop project and has held postdoctoral positions at CNRS Grenoble.
Education:
- Master's degree in Physics, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw (2002)
- PhD, Institute of Physics, PAS (2008) for dissertation "Fabrication and optical properties of diluted magnetic CdMnTe quantum dots"
- Habilitation, Institute of Physics, PAS (2017) for "Optically active heterostructures in tellurium anion based nanowires"
Research Interests: Wojnar specializes in II-VI semiconductor nanostructures doped with magnetic ions to study spin-related phenomena under quantum confinement. His experimental work combines molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth with magneto-optical characterization of individual nanostructures. Recent expansions include van der Waals crystals (antimony triselenide) and indium selenide thin films for phase-controlled MBE systems, maintaining strong collaboration with theoretical physicists.
Scientific Awards:
- Scientific Prize of the Director of the Institute of Physics, PAS for best habilitation (2017)
- Scientific Prize of the Director of the Institute of Physics, PAS for best publication (2015)
- Scholarship of the French Government for research visits
Advising and Grants: As principal investigator, Wojnar secured an Iuventus Plus grant from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and two National Centre of Science (Poland) projects (Sonata and Sonata bis). He led a team of two PhD students, one post-doc, and four students focused on nanowire fabrication and magneto-optical characterization, resulting in publications in Nano Letters, Nanoscale, and Physical Review B.
Labs and Teams: Wojnar directs the Laboratory of Growth and Physics of Low Dimensional Crystals at PAS, specializing in MBE-based nanostructure synthesis and advanced optical experiments. The lab emphasizes experimental-theoretical synergy to investigate spin dynamics in low-dimensional systems, with recent work extending to 1D van der Waals materials.
