Piotr Misztal

Piotr Misztal is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminology at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Lodz. He holds a Doctorate in Legal Sciences with distinction and is also a practicing attorney. In addition to his academic role, he serves as a chief specialist lawyer at the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Biuro Rzecznika Praw Obywatelskich), where he reviews cassation applications and extraordinary appeals in criminal cases.

Dr. Misztal's research focuses on criminal procedural law with particular emphasis on defense rights, extraordinary appeal mechanisms, witness testimony procedures, and constitutional guarantees within criminal proceedings. His scholarly work demonstrates deep engagement with both theoretical foundations and practical applications of criminal procedure law, addressing contemporary challenges such as remote proceedings during the pandemic era and evolving constitutional interpretations.

His publication record shows consistent scholarly output from 2013 through 2024, with recent work analyzing constitutional tribunal rulings, extraordinary appeal mechanisms, and procedural safeguards for suspects and defendants. Dr. Misztal has contributed significantly to understanding how legal reforms impact practical criminal procedure implementation in Poland.
