About
Piotr Józefowicz is a Polish artist and Professor at the Faculty of Painting within the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. He has served as Head of the Painting Department since an unspecified time, and has run the Drawing Studio since 2002. His career spans over three decades at the institution, starting in 1988.
- Born in Lublin (1959)
- Graduate of State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Lublin (1979)
- MFA from Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (1985), studio of Professor Kazimierz Ostrowski
Józefowicz is best known for his "THE SHOW MUST GO ON" series - a continuous, evolving collection of over 150 paintings that he began in 1985. The works, which combine acrylic and oil media, form a sprawling painterly installation that must be experienced sequentially rather than holistically. The series documents changing times and contexts, with both new additions and reworkings of older pieces contributing to its "unpredictable continuity".
His artistic practice encompasses portrait painting, mural painting, and digital art. Beyond creation, he has served as exhibition organizer and curator. Notably, he contributed to the construction of Polish War Cemeteries in Katyn, Mednoye, and Kharkiv (1997-1999).
