Ping Wang is an Associate Professor in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. He holds affiliations with UCLA Anderson School of Management’s Information Systems Research Program and serves as an Associate Editor for MIS Quarterly. He earned his Ph.D. in Information Systems from UCLA.
His research explores institutional theory, discourse analysis, and ecological perspectives to study digital innovations in organizations and communities. Key interests include data science, smart cities, and sustainable technology ecosystems.
Recent work includes a 2025 paper in the Journal of Information Technology co-authored with E. Burton Swanson and Neil Ramiller. He has received prestigious awards, including the Best Paper Award at the 37th International Conference on Information Systems and the Academy of Management’s Best Published Paper Award (2010).
Dr. Wang actively mentors Ph.D. students, such as Amanda Stein (dissertation: Three Essays on Quantum Technology Applications). He collaborates with research centers like the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) and Organizational Teams & Technology Society (OTTRS).
