Prof. Pieter de Wilde is an Associate Professor of European Politics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) since 2016. Previously, he served as a researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, where he contributed to projects on cosmopolitanism, communitarianism, and global governance. His research focuses on the politicization of European integration, democratic accountability, and comparative political methodologies.
Education: PhD in European Studies from ARENA Centre (University of Oslo, 2011), with a dissertation on EU budget politicization in Dutch, Danish, and Irish media/parliaments. Visiting scholar at Harvard University's CES program in 2016.
Research areas include social science research methods, European integration dynamics, comparative politics, and political communication. Key projects include the WZB Bridging Project on cosmopolitanism/communitarianism (since 2011), the PADEMIA project on parliamentary democracy in Europe (2014–2016), and studies on Euroscepticism in online media.
Publications span West European Politics, European Journal of International Relations, and ECPR Press books. His work analyzes EU policy debates, media framing of EU issues, and the role of national parliaments in European governance.
Grants include funding from WZB Berlin and the European Commission. He has collaborated with leading scholars like Michael Zürn, Asimina Michailidou, and Ruud Koopmans. Current research explores digital political contestation and globalization's societal impacts.
Labs/teams: Core member of NTNU's European Politics research group and affiliated with WZB's Global Governance unit. Engages in bridging theoretical and empirical political analysis.
