Pieter Jan Stappers

Pieter Jan Stappers is Professor of Design Techniques at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology. He specializes in Research through Design, Experiential Prototypes, and Contextmapping, with a focus on the intersection between design practice and academic research.

• Advisor to International Advisory Board of Industrial Design at TU/e (2024-2026)

His research explores how design processes generate knowledge and how participatory methods can democratize design education. Current projects include:

• DoCS4Design: International PhD education mapping initiative
• Future of Design Education: Global redefinition of design curricula

He received the DRS 2018 Best Paper Award for work on ambiguity in behavioral design. His recent publications focus on academic writing, design methodology, and educational innovation in design programs.
