Pierre Portal

Associate Professor Pierre Portal is a member of the Mathematical Sciences Institute (MSI) at The Australian National University (ANU), located on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country. He holds a joint position as Maitre de conférences (on leave) at Université de Lille. His research focuses on harmonic analysis, stochastic and deterministic partial differential equations, and functional calculus. Portal specializes in maximal regularity theory for parabolic equations, Fourier integral operators, and operator theory in Banach spaces.

He leads the International Research Laboratory France Australia Mathematical Sciences and Interactions (2025–2029) and has coordinated projects such as Harmonic analysis of rough oscillations (2016–2021) and Harmonic analysis of differential operators in Banach spaces (2012–2015). His work bridges geometric, probabilistic, and analytic techniques to address boundary value problems and stochastic equations.

Portal collaborates with institutions globally, including contributions to conferences and teaching at ANU. His research has been published in high-impact journals like Journal of Differential Equations and Transactions of the American Mathematical Society.
