Pierre Magontier

Pierre Magontier is a postdoctoral fellow at the University Pompeu Fabra and the Barcelona School of Economics. He is affiliated with the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) and the Center for Regional Economic Development (CRED). His research focuses on the intersection of political economy and environmental economics, examining how governance structures and spatial dynamics influence urban and regional development.

His recent publications analyze causal relationships between political alignment and coastal land use, as well as partisan policy differences in Spain. These works employ rigorous empirical methods, including Regression Discontinuity Design, to address questions of intergovernmental cooperation and environmental trade-offs. His working papers extend these themes to disaster recovery policies, urban density, and social network resilience.

Magontier’s research highlights the complex interactions between electoral incentives, geographic risk disclosure, and adaptive urban planning. His ongoing projects explore endogenous governance formation and historical patterns of redistribution in urbanization processes.
