Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and GeneticsAbout
Pierre Haas leads a research group at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS), and the Center for Systems Biology Dresden. His work is conducted through the International Max Planck Research School for Cell, Developmental, and Systems Biology (IMPRS-CellDevoSys).
His research focuses on the mechanics of cells and tissues, particularly on deriving continuum theories that represent the rich mechanical behavior of tissues during development. This theoretical work aims to understand how robust development remains compatible with mechanical constraints and biological variability.
Though primarily theoretical, the Haas group maintains close collaborations with experimental groups at MPI-CBG and other institutions. His research sits at the intersection of physics, biology, and mathematical modeling, contributing to the growing field of biophysical approaches to developmental biology.
