Roux's research centers on the history of Christianity and law in East Asia, with a particular emphasis on the interactions among China, Korea, and Japan, as well as the broader encounters between Europe and East Asia from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. His dissertation, "The Anti-Christian Trinity: An Essay on the Proscription of Catholicism in China, Korea and Japan (17th-19th Centuries)", exemplifies his comparative approach to regional religious history. During his fellowship at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg, he worked on two book projects derived from his dissertation, focusing on the proscription of Catholicism in late imperial China and the birth of the Korean Catholic Church.
His notable publication includes the monograph La Croix, la baleine et le canon: La France face à la Corée au milieu du XIXe siècle (2012), which was awarded the Auguste Pavie Prize by the Académie des Sciences d’outre-mer. Additionally, while pursuing his doctorate, he served as a graduate teaching assistant for Korean language and civilization at INALCO, Paris-7 University, and the École normale supérieure of Lyon.
