About
Pierpaolo Campanini is a Professor at ABABO, teaching specialized courses in the School of Fine Arts with primary affiliation in the Painting department. He offers courses in Chromatology (for Decoration – Art and Environment), Multimedia Installations, and Painting Techniques and Technologies.
His research interests focus on the historical and technical dimensions of color, painting materials, and the relationship between traditional painting and contemporary multimedia practices. Campanini explores how color functions across different contexts, from historical art techniques to digital reproduction technologies, and examines connections between contemporary art and historical works through concepts like light, immersion, and polyphony.
As an established artist, Campanini has participated in significant exhibitions including 'Apocalyptic and Integrated' at Rome Maxxi (2007), 'Italics, Italian Art between Tradition and Revolution, 1968–2008' at Palazzo Grassi, Venice (2008), and 'Bologna after Morandi, 1945–2015' at Palazzo Fava, Bologna (2016). He has held solo exhibitions and collaborations with prominent galleries such as Kaufmann repetto Milan, Corvi Mora London, and Blum and Poe Los Angeles.
His teaching methodology emphasizes laboratory-style learning, individualized project development, and the creation of experimental notebooks documenting material explorations. Campanini maintains regular office hours on Thursdays from 2:30pm to 3:30pm and is available by appointment for student consultations.
