Phoebe Rumsey is a Senior Lecturer in Musical Theatre and Course Leader of the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre program at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Art, Design and Performance within the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries. She also serves as Associate Head (Research and Innovation). Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. from the City University of New York (CUNY), an MA in Performance Studies from NYU, and an MA in Theatre from UNLV, alongside a BFA in Contemporary Dance from Simon Fraser University.
Her research focuses on dance’s role in musical theatre, embodying nostalgia, and cultural analysis, with a monograph Embodied Nostalgia (Routledge, 2023). She teaches modules like 'Movement for Performance' and 'Musical Theatre Skills', emphasizing student creativity and professional readiness. External roles include Editorial Board Member of Studies in Musical Theatre and External Examiner at Bath Spa University.
Recent projects include DV Mission: Immersive Performance and The Amazing Life of Margot Heuman, exploring performance innovation and historical narratives. She actively engages in academic discourse through conferences and lectures, including presentations on embodiment and theatrical history.
