Phillip Wegner is the Marston-Milbauer Eminent Scholar and Professor of English at the University of Florida. He directs the Working Group for the Study of Critical Theory and previously served as Graduate Coordinator. His scholarship explores utopian studies, science fiction, globalization, and dialectical theory.
Wegner's research examines periodization, spatial theory, and Marxist cultural criticism across twentieth and twenty-first century literature and film. He authored four books, including 'Periodizing Jameson' and 'Shockwaves of Possibility', analyzing science fiction's relationship to utopian imagination.
His publications investigate historical transitions through cultural texts, from Cold War narratives to postmodern globalization. Recent work focuses on the contemporary novel's response to political and technological shifts.
