Philippe Grelu is a Senior Professor (exceptional class) at Université Bourgogne Europe (formerly Université de Bourgogne until 2025), where he serves in the Photonics Department within the Faculty of Sciences Mirande. He is based at the ICB Laboratory UMR 6303 CNRS, located at 9 av. Savary, 21000 Dijon, in office D212 of Wing D.
His primary research focuses on Nonlinear Photonics, Ultrafast laser dynamics, Smart lasers, Ultrafast fiber lasers, Optical solitons, and Dissipative solitons. He also explores related areas including Soliton dynamics, Rogue waves, Optical soliton molecules, Ultrafast characterization, Infrared optical sources, Nonlinear waveguides, Optical fibers and microfibers, and Artificial Intelligence applications in photonics.
Prof. Grelu has held his current senior professor position since 2016, following a distinguished career that includes a Full Professor position at University of Burgundy since 2005, an Associate Professor position since 1997, and a 6-month CNRS researcher appointment at ICB, Dijon in 2012-2013.
His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in quantum optics from Université Paris Saclay (1992-1996), graduate research and teaching assistantship at Paris-Sorbonne University (1995-1996), and a postdoctoral researcher position in ultrafast optics at the University of Bordeaux I (1996-1997). He also served as a Volunteer physics teacher at Lycée Français in Pondicherry, India from 1990-1992.
