Philippe-André Martin is an Honorary Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the School of Basic Sciences and Department of Chemistry. He holds a doctorate in physics from the University of Geneva (1969) and has been associated with EPFL since 1973, progressing through roles including first assistant, scientific assistant, and full professor until 2017. His research focuses on quantum scattering, equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, and charged fluid theory. He has supervised numerous diploma theses and four doctoral theses.
Teaching responsibilities include atomic/quantum physics, statistical mechanics, and quantum fluid theory. Martin has held visiting professorships at universities in Vienna, Rome, Louvain, and Paris. He served as editor-in-chief of Helvetica Physica Acta for over a decade and contributed to project management at the Swiss National Science Foundation. His academic service includes teaching foundational physics courses across French-speaking Switzerland since 1977.
