Philipp Stockhammer is a Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU) since 2016. He also serves as Co-Director of the Max-Planck-Harvard Research Center for the Archaeoscience of the Ancient Mediterranean at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.

His research focuses on prehistoric and bioarchaeological studies, particularly integrating ancient DNA analysis with archaeological approaches. He has contributed to understanding the Mediterranean and Near Eastern regions through interdisciplinary methodologies.
Scientific awards include two European Research Council (ERC) grants (Starting in 2015 and Consolidator in 2020), fellowships in Australia, Brazil, and Germany, and prestigious memberships such as the German Archaeological Institute.
