Philipp Meyer

Philipp Meyer is a Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (IfL) since 2018 and currently serves as Librarian. He holds a Magister Artium in History, Comparative Literature, and Journalism from Leipzig and Avignon Universities. His research focuses on the history of cartography, imperial geographies of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the history of knowledge related to National Socialism. He has published extensively on topics like Gotha publishing history, educational mapmaking, and colonial spatial practices.

His work combines historical analysis with digital tools, exemplified in recent publications exploring school atlas analysis and spatial formatting. He received the 2021 Landesgeschichtlicher Forschungspreis für Industriekultur for his dissertation on Perthes publishing's cartographic worldview. Meyer actively contributes to research infrastructures at IfL, including library and archive management.
