About
Philipp Kaldis is a Professor at Lund University's Department of Clinical Sciences and vice-coordinator of the Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC). He also serves as a Special Chief Editor for the Cell Growth and Division section at Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology. His career spans institutions including ETH Zürich, Yale University, NIH, and the Institute of Molecular Cell Biology in Singapore.
- PhD: ETH Zürich
- Postdoc: Yale University School of Medicine
- NIH National Cancer Institute
- Institute of Molecular Cell Biology, Singapore
- Lund University (2019–present)
His research focuses on metabolic disorders, liver disease, and cell cycle regulation, particularly in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), diabetes, and liver cancer (HCC). Using genetically modified organisms, metabolomics, and genomics, his team investigates deregulated metabolic pathways and their therapeutic implications.
Key trends in his 148 research outputs include:
- Lipid metabolism in diabetic phenotypes
- Protein interaction networks during cell division
- Interorgan communication in metabolic disease
- Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) mechanisms
- Inflammation-fibrosis connections in liver failure
- Genomic approaches to liver regeneration
Scientific Awards:
- 2025 – Visiting Professor, National University of Singapore
As a mentor, he supervises PostDocs and PhD students, and contributes to grant panels and PhD thesis evaluations. His lab is central to EU-funded consortia like EXODIAB and LUCC (Lund University Cancer Centre).
