Prof. Dr. Philipp Gassert holds the Chair of Contemporary History at the University of Mannheim's Historical Institute (Faculty of Philosophy). He has held academic positions at institutions including the German Historical Institute in Washington DC, Heidelberg University, LMU Munich, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Augsburg. His research focuses on German/European contemporary history, transatlantic relations, US foreign policy, and protest movements. Current projects include a world history of street protests and a study on Baden-Württemberg's science policy since the 1970s.
