Philip Yangyuoru

Dr. Philip Yangyuoru is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Northern Michigan University, where his research bridges bioanalytical chemistry, forensic biochemistry, and nucleic acid biophysics. His work focuses on developing innovative biosensors and analytical methods for detecting nucleic acid secondary structures, heavy metals, and medicinal plant compounds.

Research Focus:

• Bioanalytical Chemistry: Development of high-throughput methods for probing non-canonical DNA structures including G-quadruplexes and i-motifs
• Biosensors: Design of nucleic acid-based fluorescent sensors for drug molecules and biomarkers
• Forensic Biochemistry: Trace analysis of heavy metals in food, water, and biological samples
• Chemical Separations: HPLC-MS and GC-MS methodologies for protein-ligand interactions

His recent publications demonstrate a consistent trajectory in advancing our understanding of G-quadruplex structures and their applications in biosensing, with work spanning from fundamental helicase mechanisms to practical analytical applications in forensic and medicinal chemistry.
