Professor Philip West is an Associate Professor at the University of Oxford's Faculty of English Language & Literature and a Tutorial Fellow at Somerville College. His research focuses on early seventeenth-century poetry, devotional writing, and textual editing, with a particular emphasis on figures like Henry Vaughan, James Shirley, and John Donne. He is currently completing a critical edition of James Shirley’s poems for Oxford University Press and编辑ing a volume of John Donne’s sermons.
His scholarly work bridges literary analysis and textual scholarship, addressing themes such as manuscript culture, inter-textual influence, and the intersection of religion and poetry. He supervises master’s and DPhil students in related fields.
