Philip Walsh

Dr. Philip Walsh is a Professor in the Entrepreneurship & Strategy Department at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM). With over 40 years of industry experience in energy and mining sectors, he holds a BSc in Geological Sciences (Queen’s University), MBA (Ivey Business School), and PhD in Strategic Management (University of Bradford). His expertise spans strategy, sustainability, innovation, and energy economics. He has held leadership roles including Chair of Entrepreneurship & Strategy and interim Associate Dean at TRSM.

Dr. Walsh teaches in TRSM’s undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Environmental Applied Science and Management program. He co-authored Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development and the Canadian edition of Foundations of Strategy. His research focuses on strategic change, renewable energy policy, and sustainable development in extractive industries. He is a registered professional geoscientist and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Winchester.

His professional affiliations include the Association of Geoscientists of Ontario and the International Association for Energy Economics. Awards include the Enactus Canada Dobson Fellow recognition. His recent work explores energy transition governance, decentralized energy systems, and the intersection of corporate strategy with sustainability reporting standards.

Dr. Walsh’s research integrates interdisciplinary approaches, bridging geological sciences with business strategy to address global energy challenges. He collaborates on projects involving community engagement in renewable energy deployment and circular economy frameworks for post-Brexit trade relationships between the UK and Canada.
