Philip Schlesinger

Professor Philip Schlesinger holds the Chair of Cultural Policy (Theatre, Film & Television Studies) at the University of Glasgow. He is also a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics (LSE) and Deputy Director of CREATe, the RCUK Centre for Copyright and New Business Models in the Creative Economy. His career includes roles as founding Director of Stirling Media Research Institute, Professor of Sociology at the University of Greenwich, and visiting appointments at institutions such as the European University Institute, Complutense University of Madrid, and the University of Oslo.

His research focuses on digital culture, transformation of the public sphere, cultural policy, and the politics of expertise. Notable works include analyses of media-state relations, cultural institutions, and policy frameworks in creative economies. He has contributed to interdisciplinary projects addressing issues like the UK Film Council’s legacy, EU cultural policy, and mediated access to cultural resources.
