Philip Jackson

Philip Jackson is Professor of Art at the University of Mississippi, where he heads the painting program. A prominent contemporary realist painter, he transforms ordinary objects into evocative still-life compositions that explore themes of time, memory, and materiality.

His work is characterized by meticulous attention to surface detail, controlled lighting, and poetic arrangements that elevate everyday objects. Recent developments incorporate improvisational compositions that create dense visual tapestries inspired by natural accumulations.

Jackson's paintings have been exhibited internationally in over 20 states, with permanent collections at museums in Evansville, Fort Wayne, and Huntsville. Recognitions include multiple Mississippi Arts Commission grants and the Martha and Merritt DeJong Memorial Residency. He holds an MFA from Bowling Green State University and BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design.
