Dr Philip Anthony Hadley is a Researcher at the School for Business and Society, University of York, since May 2023. He focuses on food systems, hybrid business models, and food insecurity, contributing to projects like the NIHR-funded 'Fair Food Futures UK' exploring community food organizations in Bradford and London. His PhD from SOAS (University of London) examined power dynamics in farmer producer organizations in India through ethnographic fieldwork. Prior roles include advocacy and project work with the Trades Union Congress (TUC), National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), and National Union of Students (NUS).
Research Interests: Philip’s work bridges international development and food security, emphasizing institutional dynamics in cooperative enterprises, value chain integration, and community-driven solutions to food insecurity. He employs mixed methods, including ethnography and systems mapping, to analyze organizational models and policy interventions.
Grants & Projects: Lead researcher on the £1.9M NIHR-funded Fair Food Futures UK project (2023–2025), investigating scalable models for mitigating food insecurity through community-led initiatives. Collaborations include NHS stakeholders and academic partners in Bradford and Tower Hamlets.
