About
Phil Beier is a Researcher at the Nordeuropa-Institut of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, specializing in historical and comparative linguistics. He contributes to Project B04: 'Emergence and transfer of register patterns,' investigating intraindividual variation in writings of Martin Luther and Johannes Bretke.
His research focuses on Old Icelandic and Old Swedish philology, Celtic-Nordic cultural contacts, runology, and Jewish-Swedish literary connections. He co-developed the Birgitta-Notker-Korpus (BiNoKo), a comparative corpus of Old High German and Old Swedish texts, published in REALIS and presented at conferences like OXBER Summer School and the 25th ATdS.
Beier's work emphasizes register analysis in historical texts, particularly St. Birgitta's Revelations and Notker's Psalms, exploring modal constructions and sociolinguistic variation. He engages in interdisciplinary collaborations, integrating corpus linguistics with historical and cultural studies.
