About
Peter Østrup Jensen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, where he works at the Costerton Biofilm Center. He also maintains dual appointments as a Researcher at the Phagocyte Laboratory and the Institute for Inflammation Research at Rigshospitalet. His academic journey includes positions at The Finsen Laboratory, KMA, Rigshospitalet, and Center for Biomedical Microbiology at DTU.
Dr. Jensen's research focuses on the effect of inflammatory response on the chemical micro-environment, with particular expertise in biofilm-related infections and host-pathogen interactions. His work spans immunology, microbiology, and infectious disease research, examining how bacterial communities interact with host immune responses in chronic infections. He has made significant contributions to understanding bacterial respiration in respiratory infections, cytokine responses in periodontitis, and the microenvironment in human disease.
His recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on translational research connecting basic microbiological mechanisms with clinical applications. The work shows particular emphasis on biofilm physiology, immune responses to bacterial infections, and the development of novel models for studying host-pathogen interactions. His research has substantial clinical implications for understanding and treating chronic bacterial infections.
