Peter Thompson is Dean of Arts at the University of New Brunswick's Fredericton campus and holds the academic rank of Professor in the Department of English. Previously, he served as Director of the School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies and Associate Dean (Academic) at Carleton University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
His research examines deindustrialization's cultural impacts through Atlantic Canadian literature and popular culture, focusing on mine closures' effects on masculinity, environmental perceptions, labor dynamics, and cultural memory. He has published in Studies in Canadian Literature, Acadiensis, and the Journal of Appalachian Studies, alongside his 2019 monograph Nights Below Foord Street.
Thompson is affiliated with Concordia University's DePOT project on deindustrialization and serves on the Executive Council of ACSUS (Association of Canadian Studies in the US). He actively mentors graduate students in Atlantic Canadian literature, Canadian popular culture, and deindustrialization studies.
