Peter Stoicheff is the 11th President of the University of Saskatchewan, effective October 2015. Previously, he served as Dean of the College of Arts and Science (2011–2015) and Vice-Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts (2005–2010). He holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Toronto and has been a faculty member in the English Department since 1986. His administrative roles included SSHRC Coordinator and founder of the U of S Digital Research Centre and Interdisciplinary Centre for Culture and Creativity.
Educated at Queen's University (BA, 1978) and the University of Toronto (MA, 1980; PhD, 1983), Stoicheff is internationally recognized for research in modern American literature, the history/future of the book, and interdisciplinary studies in literature and science. His work includes The Hall of Mirrors (1995), The Future of the Page (2004), and contributions to hypertext projects like digital editions of The Sound and the Fury and Frankenstein.
His research interests emphasize complexity theory in modern texts, hypertextual innovation, and the intersection of scientific and humanistic inquiry. He has held SSHRC grants and served on national research committees. Beyond academia, Stoicheff is a classical guitarist with two albums (Ethereal Steel, 2001) and sits on the Remai Modern Art Gallery Board.
Awarded the University of Saskatchewan’s Graduate Supervisor Award (2002), he advocates for collaborative interdisciplinary work and digital humanities. His current projects include editing a collection on science-humanities reciprocities and advancing hypertext’s cultural implications.
