Peter Selwyn is a Professor at the Royal College of Music and a prominent figure in the UK opera scene. He serves as a regular coach on the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera, Principal Conductor of the Lambeth Orchestra, Music Director of the London Opera Company, and recently appointed Music Director of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra.
Specializing in Wagner, Selwyn has conducted numerous full Ring Cycles at prestigious venues including Bayreuth, ROH, Nuremberg, Strasbourg, and Longborough Festival. His repertoire spans over 120 operas, with approximately 70 conducted for UK companies including Opera North, Welsh National Opera, English Touring Opera, and Opera Holland Park, as well as international engagements in Australia, Singapore, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.
A highly experienced conductor, Selwyn has worked with major orchestras including the Nürnberger Philharmoniker, Wiener Symphoniker, Orchestra dell'Teatro Comunale di Bologna, City of London Sinfonia, and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. His career highlights include an 8-year tenure as Head of Music and Kapellmeister at Staatstheater Nürnberg, co-founding the Internationales Kammermusikfestival Nürnberg (where he served as co-Artistic Director for nearly 20 years), and conducting world premieres and Britten chamber operas.
Current projects include conducting Der fliegende Holländer for Opera Holland Park and Götterdämmerung with London Opera Company, alongside symphonic concerts with the Lambeth Orchestra and Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra.
