Peter S. Thorne

Peter S. Thorne is the University of Iowa Distinguished Chair and Professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at the UI College of Public Health. He is co-director of the Environmental Health Sciences Research Center and previously chaired the U.S. EPA’s Science Advisory Board. His research focuses on environmental health impacts, including climate change, asthma triggers, nanomaterial toxicity, and exposure assessment strategies. He has led studies on airborne pollutants, PCBs, and indoor allergens, emphasizing their effects on public health. Thorne advocates for evidence-based policies and has been recognized with the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. His work bridges academia, policy, and community health, addressing issues like environmental justice and disaster resilience.
