About
Peter P. Orth is a Professor in the Department of Physics at Saarland University, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. He leads the Quantum Information and Matter Group, focusing on theoretical aspects of quantum information and quantum materials.
His research spans the theoretical foundations and practical applications of quantum computing, including quantum algorithms, error correction, and simulation of many-body systems. He employs analytical and numerical methods from field theory and statistical mechanics, and develops quantum algorithms for near-term quantum hardware. His group collaborates with institutions such as FZ Jülich and DESY Zeuthen on quantum chemistry and quantum simulation projects.
Prof. Orth teaches advanced courses such as Quantum Algorithms and Quantum Error Correction, Theoretical Physics: Electrodynamics, and Classical Mechanics. He also offers seminars on quantum machine learning and hosts the Quantum Information Science Talks series. He actively supervises bachelor’s and master’s theses on topics including quantum computing for many-body physics, nonlinear quantum response, and Floquet engineering.
His group currently has openings for postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, indicating active research funding and project development.
