Peter Murray

Peter Murray is a Senior Lecturer and Joint Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) in Multimedia Journalism at Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester School of Art/School of Digital Arts). He holds an MA (Hons) in Logic and Moral Philosophy from the University of Glasgow and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His professional background includes roles in media advocacy, serving as National Union of Journalists (NUJ) President (2009-2011) and outreach manager for the Media Trust in Scotland. He is fluent in French and actively contributes to BBC radio/TV discussions on media and union issues.

Teaching emphasizes practical journalism skills, ethical responsibilities, and adapting to dynamic newsroom environments. His research interests focus on contemporary journalism practices, media law, and the intersection of journalism with community advocacy. He has received recognition for his work, including the 2016 Scottish Refugee Festival media award.

Professional affiliations include membership in the NUJ and University and College Union (UCU). His outreach efforts have included supporting media access for marginalized communities through NGO collaborations.
