Peter Middleton

Peter Middleton is a Visiting Professor in the Department of English at New York University. His academic career spans decades of interdisciplinary research bridging modernist/postmodernist poetry with scientific discourse.

Educated at Oxford (BA 1973), SUNY Buffalo (Postgraduate 1977-78), and Sheffield (PhD 1979), he has built expertise in:

• Modern and contemporary poetry
• Science-literature intersections
• Climate change narratives in fiction/poetry
• British literary traditions

His research explores how scientific concepts influence poetic form and content, particularly during the Cold War and in 21st-century literature. He contributes to editorial boards of key journals including Textual Practice and English, while his book publications examine topics ranging from literary memory to poetry's relationship with physics.
