Peter MacDonald is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Law, Anglia Ruskin University. He leads the BSc Business with Economics degree program and teaches modules in Economics for Managers, Business Economics, EU Economy, and The Economics of Global Trade.

His research focuses on the boundaries between public and private provision of public services, comparisons of public/private/hybrid service delivery, and topics in labour economics, industrial organisation, public procurement, and defence economics. Prior to joining Anglia Ruskin, he worked at Manchester Business School on EU public-private transport partnerships and completed a PhD on military outsourcing economics at the University of York.
He supervises PhD students Anh Tuan Vu (globalisation and inequality) and Onur Demir (natural gas market reform in Turkey) as a second supervisor. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of the Royal Economics Society.
