Peter Lindblad

Peter Lindblad is a Professor at the Uppsala University, affiliated with the Ångström Laboratory within the Molecular Biomimetics and Microbial Chemistry divisions. His research focuses on engineering photosynthetic microbial cell factories (cyanobacteria) for direct solar chemical and fuel production from CO2, integrating molecular genetics, synthetic biology, and systems biology approaches.

• Coordinating EU CyanoFactory and Nordic AquaFeed projects
• Over 150 publications in cyanobacterial bioengineering and hydrogen metabolism

• Synthetic Biology for microbial redesign
• Hydrogenase engineering to reverse electron flow
• Carbon fixation pathways and Calvin-Benson-Bassham cycle optimization
• Biofuel production (isobutanol, ethylene, hydrogen)
• Lipid accumulation for biodiesel applications
• Stress tolerance mechanisms in engineered strains

Recent publications highlight CRISPR-based gene regulation, hydrogenase engineering, and lipid/carotenoid pathway optimization. Scientific awards include coordination of major EU/Nordic projects and IEA H2 Agreement Annex 21.
