About
Peter Lab is led by Professor BM Peter at the University of Rochester and affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI-EVA) in Leipzig. The lab focuses on computational and statistical methods in population genetics, with a particular emphasis on ancient DNA analysis, human evolution, and population structure.
Research interests include developing tools for analyzing low-coverage ancient DNA, modeling spatiotemporal population dynamics, and visualizing genetic data. The lab has published influential studies in Science and Nature, including work on Neandertal ancestry in early modern humans and ancient genomes from key archaeological sites.
Recent articles highlight advancements in PCA methodologies for population structure inference, contamination estimation in ancient samples, and computational tools like rangeExpansion for demographic modeling. The lab actively recruits postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates to advance these projects.
