About
Dr. Peter Joore serves as Lecturer in Open Innovation at NHL University of Applied Sciences since 2008, leveraging design thinking to accelerate collaboration for smart, sustainable societal solutions. Previously, he worked as an industrial design engineer on Fokker aircraft interiors and international airport systems, followed by senior research roles at TNO Science & Industry developing tracking systems and wearable sensors.
His research confronts wicked problems—complex societal challenges like Northern Netherlands shrinkage and environmental crises lacking single responsible entities—through radical cross-sector collaboration between governments, businesses, knowledge institutions, and civil society. He co-founded the Frisian Design Factory, an innovation hub operating from a repurposed Leeuwarden prison and integrated into the Design Factory Global Network, demonstrating practical Open Innovation frameworks.
Through this lectorate, Joore drives initiatives where multidisciplinary teams apply design methodologies to restructure stakeholder engagement in sustainability transitions, emphasizing tangible societal impact over theoretical frameworks.
