About
Associate Professor Peter John Reece is affiliated with the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at UNSW's School of Physics. His research focuses on experimental optical spectroscopy, microscopy techniques, and their applications in photonic/optoelectronic materials. Key areas include nanoparticle trapping, optical biosensing, novel photovoltaics, and silicon photonics.
Education: BSc Hons 1 (Medical Physics, UNSW 1998), PhD (Physics, UNSW 2005).
Research interests span optical trapping, nanoscale quantum sensing, plasmonics-based biosensing, silicon nanophotonics, and thermoradiative power generation. His work integrates multimode fiber imaging and semiconductor material characterization.
Teaching roles include instructing PHYS2114 Electromagnetism, PHYS3114 Electrodynamics, and laboratory courses. He serves as Director of Teaching (Physics), chairs the Radiation Safety Committee, and represents Physics on the Health and Safety Committee.
Publications include 127 journal articles, 51 conference papers, 9 preprints, and 3 book chapters on structured light and optical micromanipulation.
