Peter John Barnes is a Professor of Thoracic Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, and Head of Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College. He is also an Honorary Consultant Physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London. His academic career spans over three decades, with significant contributions to respiratory research and clinical practice.
He graduated with first-class honors from Cambridge and Oxford Universities. His research focuses on respiratory pharmacology, asthma, COPD, inflammation, oxidative stress, corticosteroid resistance, and inflammatory biomarkers in lung disease. He has published over 1,000 peer-reviewed papers and authored or edited more than 50 books.
