Peter Holmes

Peter Holmes is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Philosophy & Theology at the University of Notre Dame, Australia, Sydney Campus. He holds qualifications including a BTh, Grad Dip Ministry, MTh, Grad Dip Theology (Marriage & Family), and a PhD. He is actively engaged in teaching, research, and public theological engagement.

Peter's research focuses on the intersection of Scripture, theology, and contemporary pastoral issues. His primary interests include biblical interpretation, the relationship between faith and reason, masculinity in Catholic theology, marriage and sexuality, and pastoral theology. He teaches a wide range of subjects including Old and New Testament studies, Biblical Hebrew, Koine Greek, Fundamental Theology, and Preaching.

His scholarly works reflect a strong trend in integrating classical biblical scholarship with lived Catholic practice, particularly in areas of gender, family, and evangelization. His publications and presentations often bridge academic theology and practical ministry.

Peter Holmes has supervised postgraduate research, including a Masters thesis on Models of Faith and Reason and his own PhD on Is there a Catholic Theology of Masculinity?. He has contributed to teacher formation, youth leadership programs, and clergy development across multiple dioceses. He is a regular contributor to Catholic media and hosts the podcast This Catholic Life.

He is actively involved in academic and religious communities, including the Fellowship for Biblical Studies, the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, and is a founding member of the Catholic Scholars Guild (Australia). He lectures at the Hearts Aflame Summer School in New Zealand and presents on masculinity in Australia and New Zealand.
