Professor Peter Hall is a Professor of Medical Oncology (Cancer Informatics) at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre and NHS Lothian. He specializes in Health Economics, Clinical Informatics, and Health Technology Assessment in Cancer. His research focuses on improving clinical outcomes through efficient research design, cost-effectiveness analysis, and leveraging real-world data from NHS systems. He leads the Health Economics Group within the University of Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit and is a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Leeds.
He graduated from the University of Edinburgh Medical School (2003), completed a PhD in Health Economics at the University of Leeds (2012), and became a Consultant Medical Oncologist treating breast cancer patients at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre. His academic roles include leading the Edinburgh Cancer Informatics Programme and serving on the NICE Appraisal Committee.
Research interests include socioeconomic disparities in cancer care, clinical trial methodology, and the application of big data in oncology. He supervises multiple PhD students and collaborates on large-scale trials like MAMMO-50 (breast cancer surveillance) and EMT2 (omega-3 fatty acids in colorectal cancer).
