About
Prof. Dr. Peter H. Huy is a full-time Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, University of Rostock, Germany. He leads a research group focused on homogeneous catalysis, organocatalysis, and sustainable synthetic methods. His work bridges fundamental method development with applications in pharmaceutical and natural product synthesis.
His research interests include:
- Organocatalysis and Lewis base catalysis
- Sustainable and green chemistry
- Synthesis of bioactive compounds
- Mechanistic studies of catalytic reactions
- Functional group transformations
His recent publications highlight innovative catalytic strategies, particularly using formamides as catalysts for amidation, esterification, and nucleophilic substitutions. His work emphasizes efficiency, selectivity, and environmental sustainability.
Scientific awards and fellowships include:
- Liebig Fellowship from the Chemical Industry Fund
- PhD Fellowship from the Fonds of the Chemical Industry
- DAAD Fellowship
Prof. Huy actively mentors students and recruits for bachelor’s, master’s, and research internships. He is engaged in academic dissemination through publications, a dedicated research group website (peterhuylab.de), and social media (@peterhuylab). He also contributes to teaching and curriculum development in organic chemistry.
The research group conducts mechanistic investigations to deepen understanding and inspire further innovation in synthetic organic chemistry. Collaborative and interdisciplinary work is encouraged to advance sustainable methodologies.
