About
Peter Grathwohl is a Professor in the Department of Geo- and Environmental Sciences at the University of Tübingen. He serves as Vice President for Research and Innovation and Transfer (since 2014) and has held leadership roles such as Dean of the Geoscience Faculty (2006–2010) and Vice Dean (2010–2014). His research focuses on hydrogeochemistry, pollutant dynamics, and environmental remediation, with a strong emphasis on PFAS, PAHs, microplastics, and groundwater systems.
Grathwohl leads major research initiatives including the SFB 1253 CAMPOS project on pollutant metabolism in landscapes. He has coordinated EU projects like AquaTerra (2004–2009) and contributed to national and international advisory boards, including the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences. His awards include the Heitfeld-Preis (2004) for applied geoscience research.
His work bridges field studies, laboratory experiments, and advanced modeling, addressing critical environmental challenges such as contaminated soils, groundwater remediation, and microplastic transport. Collaborative projects emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to pollution mitigation and sustainable resource management.
